Louisburgh Killeen Loops

Located 22km from Westport, the small village of Louisburgh is your destination for the Louisburgh Killeen Loops. In this area there are three cycle loops – of varying distances and difficulty - which take you along sea cliffs and beaches as well as inland through wild and desolate country on very quiet back roads and tracks. Be sure to stock up on food and drinks though as this is very quiet countryside with services only present in Louisburgh. From Roonagh Quay why not consider catching the ferry to Clare Island – a must for any visitor – and experience life on an Irish island.

Loop 1: Roonagh Quay 19km Loop - click to expand

Start / Trailhead:	Roonagh Quay
Distance:	19km
Estimated Time:	1½ Hours
Terrain:	Flat bog roads with some gentle hills and fantastic views of Achill, Clare, Inishbofin and Inishturk Islands. This loop also includes a mesmerizing track along sea cliffs as well as taking in Carrowmore beach if you fancy a quick surf.
Traffic:	Generally light
Degree of Difficulty:	Suitable for people with medium levels of fitness.

Loop 2: Bunowen 7km Loop - click to expand

Distance:	7km
Estimated Time:	45 minutes
Terrain:	This route offers incredible views over a short distance. Pleasant cycling awaits you but don’t be fooled by the short distance as there are a couple of quite steep hills on this loop. Fortunately these are only a short walk – if fitness is a concern – yet the panoramic views from the summit are worth it!
Traffic:	Generally light
Degree of Difficulty:	Suitable for people with medium levels of fitness although there are a couple ascents where walking the bike may be more suitable.

Loop 3: Derrymore 26km Loop - click to expand

Distance:	26km
Estimated Time:	2 Hours
Terrain:	This is a more challenging trip inland to the Sheeffry Hills. Traversing through isolated country on roads almost completely free of traffic the tranquility is numbing. One of the many highlights of this loop is the steep climb (or walk!) up to the summit of Derrymore. With two streams needing to be forded en-route this is an exciting loop with unbelievable panoramic views.

Degree of Difficulty:	Suitable for people with medium levels of fitness although there are a couple ascents where walking the bike may be more suitable.
